Solstas Announces Changes in Cardiac Tests (10/16/12)

Dear Physician:

Effective October 1, 2012, Solstas Lab Partners® implemented the following changes in two cardiovascular laboratory tests:

Troponin I will be performed with a new assay, with a change in reference range.
New Reference Range: normal <0.30 ng/mL.
Previous Reference Range: normal <0.08 ng/mL

The specimen requirements (Green Lithium Heparin tube, 4 mL) are unchanged.

The Brain-Type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) test for heart failure will be replaced with a new proBNP test. Our previous BNP test will no longer be available.

ProBNP (also known as NT-proBNP) has the following new reference ranges:

  • Patients <75 years old: normal <125 pg/mL
  • Patients 75 years old and older: normal <450 pg/mL

Previous BNP Reference Range: <100 pg/mL

The Specimen requirements (Green Lithium Heparin tube, 4 mL) are unchanged.

Both tests will be performed on our Roche instruments.
